A completely incisionless procedure, the StomaphyX procedure is performed safely, quickly, and with minimal patient downtime. The procedure, which typically lasts from 20 to 30 minutes, is performed entirely through the patient's mouth and requires no external incisions or internal dissection.

With the patient under general anesthesia, the flexible StomaphyX surgical device is gently lowered through the patient's mouth into the stomach under the visualization of an endoscope “camera” placed down the shaft of the device. Once the StomaphyX device is inside the stomach, a small section of the stomach wall is suctioned up into the device and fastened with a suture-like fastener, creating a fold called a plication. This may be repeated 10-20 times.
